Description

• Common Name : Circe
• Scientific Name : Hestina nama (Db.)
• Family : NYMPHALIDAE
• Wingspan : 95-105mm
• Colour : Blackish brown, female upperside has pale streaks on black background; similar to Chestnut Tiger.
• Habit : Found in forest edges, often sits on the paths and basks with wing partially open. Rests with folded wings in shaded areas on rocks or leaves. Very wary on closure approach, visits flowers and moist patches.
• Larval Host Plants : not recorded.
• Location : North Bengal
